What is general dentistry?
General dentistry picks up after preventive dentistry.
With preventive dentistry, which is a partnership between patient and dentist, we concentrate on best practices to keep your teeth and gums healthy.
For patients, this means brushing and flossing regularly.
For our dentist, it means examining your teeth and gums twice per year, periodic x-rays, and regular dental cleanings with our hygienist. For kids, we may suggest fluoride rinses and sealants to help keep their teeth strong and protect against cavities.
General dentistry, on the other hand, is about maintenance and refers to the wide range of services provided by our Manchester, MO dentist, which includes but is not limited to:
- Periodontal care
- Tooth-colored fillings
- Cancer screenings
- Treatment plans
- Dental bridges
- Dental implants
- Emergency care such as root canal therapy
- Adult orthodontic care
Whether you need to restore a tooth, it’s time for your next dental exam, or you would like to enhance your smile, Dr. Carron can meet your needs.
What is microdentistry?
Helping patients maintain their natural teeth for a lifetime is a top priority at Stanford Dental.
In order to best achieve this goal, Dr. Carron makes his diagnosis with the philosophy of microdentistry in mind. This means that he is striving to detect decay very early on so it can be treated as soon as possible.
Being proactive about treatment achieves two goals:
- It eliminates decay before it spreads and creates bigger problems. This benefits our patients because we are able to utilize smaller restorations that require the loss of less tooth structure while maintaining more of your own healthy teeth.
- Using smaller restorations means a less costly and less time-consuming procedure for you.
What should I expect during my first appointment?
Dr. Carron and his team truly value our patients and the relationships we build with them. We know that establishing trust between patient and dentist is an essential part of dentistry.
For our new patients, we offer a full interview process and tour of the office. During your specialized 90-minute new patient appointment, you will get a full set of digital x-rays and a VELscope oral cancer screening. Dr. Carron will also examine each tooth using Diagnodent laser cavity detection and his two-times magnification loupes. This allows him to assess your current level of health and determine if any additional treatment is needed.
He will also use his intraoral camera to take full-color pictures of your mouth and teeth and assess your gums to determine what type of cleaning you will need when you return. He will also share these images with you. When you come back for your second appointment, you will get a cleaning that is specific for your needs as well as a private consultation with Dr. Carron. Together, you will review each x-ray and picture taken, and he will help you to better understand your dental needs or why a treatment or procedure has been recommended.
Most patients are happily surprised by the amount of time and attention Dr. Carron gives them as they haven’t experienced this level of service before.
What types of technology do you use?
Your comfort is always a focus at our practice.
Dr. Carron combines his extensive training and knowledge with the latest dental technology to provide an experience for patients that is more comfortable and efficient.
For example, laser cavity detection allows him to pinpoint tooth decay in its earliest stages, while air abrasion helps him treat patients without the use of the drill or dental anesthetics. Digital impressions provide a more accurate image of your tooth and eliminate the need for the uncomfortable and messy impressions used in the past.
Will my dentistry be painful?
Dr. Carron relies on a few trade secrets and techniques to keep his patients relaxed and comfortable during their treatments and procedures. Additionally, he always makes sure you are thoroughly numbed before beginning any dental work.
If you do have an issue during your treatment or procedure, simply raise your hand and we will take care of the issue.
For those who need a little extra, we also offer nitrous oxide. This safe gas, administered by nasal mask, allows you to relax and breeze through your dental treatments and procedures at Stanford Dental. This gas wears off when your mask is removed so you can drive yourself home.
